Qævæ Bàbi (/ˈqævæ/ /ˈbəbi/ [awful; terrible] [home]) is a temperate Town located in the Kûri Mûzû Principality of the Lallalan City-state.

The name Qævæ Bàbi is derived from the Wareneese language, as Qævæ Bàbi was founded by Brèsil Dyëmëm, who was culturaly Wareneese.

Climate

Qævæ Bàbi has a yearly average temperature of 4°C (39°F), with its average temperature during the summer being an icy 22°C (71°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool -13°C (9°F). Qævæ Bàbi receives an average of 259 cm/y (101 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Qævæ Bàbi covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 4970 m (16305 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Qævæ Bàbi was founded durring the early 12th century in winter of the year 1121, by Brèsil Dyëmëm. The establishment of the new community went well, though many minor issues had to be solved as time went on. This was enough to delay construction and push back the formal opening ceramony, leading to some embarisment for Brèsil Dyëmëm.

Qævæ Bàbi was built using the conventions of Wareneese durring the early 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Qævæ Bàbi is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber and earth construction, with most buildigns first floors resembling mounds of earth, with subsequent floors appearing as elaborate log cabins, with each building forming a tiered pyramid of sorts fromed from the stack of rectangular, peek roofed cabins. Most wooden bracing, support, and trim is carved with decorative knotwork, and the larger structures even feature painted trim which emphasises the knotwork.

Qævæ Bàbi is buildings are arranged arround a network of crampt paverstone streets which form a diamond shaped grid, where each diamond verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller diamond has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town is protected by a humble stone fence which is tall enough to provide adiquite cover for defenders to fire from, but no more than that. Qævæ Bàbi's peasent-grade are in an unremarkable state. To some, this is the ideal sate for defences to be in. In need of absoutly nothing, and ready to serve the town as needed.

Before you’ve even set foot into the heart of Qævæ Bàbi, you can smell it. The incense. It hangs about the town like a cloud. Monks, priests, and clerics are everywhere, all dedicated to the same god, all preforming the same rituals to bless and anoint building,s streets, people, animals, you name it they are or have blessed it. The same holysymbols is everywhere too. Its on buildings, on people, and even branded into livestock. This town certainly loves its god.

Civic Infrastructure

Qævæ Bàbi possesses a city-wide Aethary Link which provides Aethary access anywhere within its metropolitan. This allows citizens who can afford the relevant devices access in their places of work, and rarely homes.

Qævæ Bàbi has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Qævæ Bàbi. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Qævæ Bàbi's parks.

Qævæ Bàbi has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Qævæ Bàbi.

Qævæ Bàbi has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Qævæ Bàbi has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Qævæ Bàbi has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Qævæ Bàbi's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Qævæ Bàbi possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. These lights provide nighttime illumination to most city streets.

Qævæ Bàbi has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Qævæ Bàbi's natural decorations nor waterways.

Qævæ Bàbi has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Qævæ Bàbi has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Qævæ Bàbi is home to a University which provides higher education in a variety of fields, and also serves as a research institute for those same fields.

Cultural Notes

Qævæ Bàbi's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by their massive, monolithic and 'blocky' appearance with a rigid geometric style. It was best known for its rough, unfinished surfaces, unusual shapes, heavy-looking materials, straight lines, and small windows. Modular elements were often used to form masses representing specific functional zones, grouped into a unified whole.

In Qævæ Bàbi the milk never sours.

The Flea, Giant near Qævæ Bàbi are known to be quite timid.

Qævæ Bàbi's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves bloodletting to channel Illusion energies of tier 2 via oath swearing.
